~Uwa of the Amazon Area~

We first learned of the Uwa by way of Rainforest Action Network, and have followed over time, their struggles (successful at last review) with Oxy-petroleum corporation attempting to access and acquire their land and use-rights. Some celebrities (i.e.: Sting, etc.) have assisted the Uwa culture in their struggle, bringing them to increased public awareness. As with other cultures both displaced and those not displaced yet, they have much to offer us culturally. They are another one of the cultures who managed to survive for countless centuries, still retaining a modicum of autonomy, yet with greatly increased western influences and contact. Only a few links for now,
with more links, writings, and photos to come.
